Art After Dark: Uma Noite de Carnaval

ARTafterDARK is the Honolulu Academy of Arts' monthly art party organized by a dynamic group of young volunteers dedicated to exploring the arts.  This event has all the best things an night should offer: beautiful art, good local music, drinks, dancing, crafts, usually some sort of hunt or activity and drawings.  All based on the theme of the month.  For the month of February a Brazilian Carnival came to the Academy.

The food was provided by Town.  The chicken and potato pot pie was a bit dry.  Marinated spicy meats, how can you go wrong.  Hearts of palm salad, while not my favorite, had a very tasty dressing.  We did not have the rice fritters or the flan.  Brazilian red wine accentuated the fare.  But if you attend, bring cash.  This event does not take credit cards.

The various court yards hold food, drink, dancing, music and crafts.  This month we make carnival masks
with sequins, fabric and feathers.
Brad and I display our creativity.

In the front of the academy is the main courtyard where the dancing occurs each month.  This event boasted a Brazilian band and dancers.  The crowd enjoyed their participation.

My favorite part of the evening was in one of the other courtyards.  A guitarist named Rosco Wuestewald and the band Onward, Etc, played while an artist housed at the Academy, Kate Smith painted on stage beside them.  I enjoyed the music and her energy as she painted, dancing to the tunes, her strokes in rhythm to the tempo.  I added their websites below and a short video I took that night.

I look forward to next month, Seoul Power.
