"Hands Across the Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, fishing industry and coastal military missions. Let us share our knowledge, energies and passion for protecting all of the above from the devastating effects of oil drilling." The Mission: To organize a national movement to oppose offshore oil drilling and champion clean energy and renewables. These gatherings will bring thousands of American citizens to our beaches and cities and will draw metaphorical and actual lines in the sand; human lines in the sand against the threat oil drilling poses to America’s coastal economies and marine environment. To convince our State Legislators, Governors, Congress and President Obama to stop the expansion of offshore oil drilling and to adopt policies encouraging clean and renewable energy sources. America needs legislation that encourages the growth of clean energy and renewable energy industries for America’s future."
Brad and I participated with our friends from Malama na Honu at Laniakea Beach, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii on June 26, 2010.
Early in to prepare posters, signs and directionals for the incoming participants. Local bakery treats (so ono) and good company as we set off on our individual assignments.
Patrick spearheaded with several other community activists the organization and production of our June 26th Hands Across the Sands at Laniakea Beach. Sponge Bob appreciated all his hard work and stopped by on his way to the site for a photo op. Sponge Bob and Patrick.
My Malama na Honu Ohana stood and supported alternative energy and preservation of our ocean, beaches, and home to our treasure honu. The energy that this special group of people create through their collected gifts, their generosity of time and their giving hearts courses through me and encourages me.
Sponge Bob seen holding hands with supporters, encouraging beach goers to join in and help preserve his Pineapple under the sea.
A unique photographic representation of our hands connected at Laniakea. The sun shining to the left and fading to the ominous clouds to the right, our line of unity and support for the beaches and oceans we cherish, stretching strong on both sides.
Mahalo, Stephanie for allowing me to utilize these amazing photos in telling my story.
