Celebrating 4.1 at Roy's Ko'Olina.

Brad and I were married at the courthouse in Seattle on May 12, 2006. We call it the .1 anniversary because we also celebrate the day we had our wedding (.2 in August). Brad made reservations at one of my favorite restaurants on the island, Roy's at Ko'Olina. There are things on the menu that are staples but it does change often, so you are never sure exactly what they may be serving. And just like the other visits, this meal was perfect. We sat outside on the lanai overlooking one of the ponds and the golf course. Live music, a gentleman playing his guitar, played and the tradewinds cooled off the evening. We were served complimentary edamame in chili oil. So ono.
We decided to split two appetizers. The first was a salad with garlic pears, prosciutto wrapped Gorgonzola with candied pecans, spring greens and an amazing Cabernet dressing. I was so excited I didn't take a picture of the display before we it off!
On our first trip to Roy's there was an appetizer that has never been duplicated. It was a sushi roll that was covered with a warmed flank steak. It was delicious. It is no longer on the menu, but Brad talked with our server and he asked the cooking staff if they could duplicate it. They were gracious enough to try and although it was not the original, it was wonderful. A type of fish and avocado roll with a layer of warmed steak layered on top with a spicy sauce topped with tempura battered shrimp. No dipping necessary.
Surf and turf is always my favorite. Although I prefer lobster, I chose this as the combination I wanted the most. Petite filet mignon, garlic shrimp (perfect!) on warmed spinach in a lemon oil with an orzo mac and cheese.
Brad also chose a surf and turf, but his included a NY steak encrusted with gorgonzola, lobster wrapped in bacon (ofcourse it is!), saffron potatoes with deep fried mushrooms. The lobster was so good, he gave me a little bite.
The dessert was the interesting part of the meal. I was going to be good and pick the sorbet sampling...I love sorbet freshly made. But when I saw this on the menu, I couldn't pass it up. It is called the "Elvis" Monte Cristo. Peanut Butter, bananas, honey and macadamia nuts combined and sandwiched between chocolate bread pudding, encases in a crispy golden batter. Served ala mode on top of a peanut butter and raspberry sauce. Ahuh...words don't describe how these flavors burst in your mouth. The devil. And if that wasn't enough....
Our server informed the kitchen it was our anniversary and they gifted us this beautifully decorated delicious chocolate decandence cake. It was moist, dense and raspberry delightful.
We tried to snap a quick shot in the parking lot to document our four years, but we are not so good with the camera phone just yet. Instead, we are just blurred and slightly blinded by the awesome flash of my Droid. Stay tuned for 4.2 in August.
