Submarine Birthday Ball

He is ready to go. The Schedule of Events are as follows: Walk over to the Hilton Hawaiian from the Hale Koa for Social Hour (which we missed). Officer's Call Presentation of Colors/National Anthem (and I want to start a rant about the inconsideration of the young officers from the USS Corpus Cristi that talked and carried on during this part of the schedule, but I will refrain.) Master of Ceremonies, Capt. Lee Hankins begins the ceremony for the Cake Cutting.110th Birthday Cake. Cut with a sword by the sailor that is the longest qualified subs and the sailor that is the shortest qualified. The Blessing was given and dinner served. Besides the hardest carrots ever served that were not raw, the meal was good and filling. Then the Centerpiece Award Presentation. Although I do not know who won what, I did take some photos to share.
The USS Pasedena promises that they will be ready anytime and added a red eared slider in a tank which ofcourse touched my heart.
The USS Santa Fe and their replica from the New Mexico State Flag.
USS Chicago, in dry dock, providing good spirits to it's crew.
Wonderful replica of the dive tour by the USS Olympia.
The USS Hawaii, recently making Pearl Harbor her home port, was decorated like an outrigger canoe and adorned with a lei.
The USS Key West was equipped in dry dock with boxes of cigars. They better smoke em fast. Submarines will be smoke free beginning January 2011.
The Jacksonville submarine seems to have a problem. But not to the sailors drinking the alcohol pouring from the holes in the hull.
Our closeup with the sneaky Chris lurking in the background right before the toasts and dancing. The remarks and introductions of the commodores and commanding officers are always interesting. Could barely hear the remarks because of the less then respectful junior officers and their drunk wives making a ruckus. The Capt had to direct their attention back to him and ask for them to pay attention. I felt as if these men and women might need a behavioral plan. The introductions are of each commodore and commanding officer of the submarines being carried in a variety of ways to the front of the stage. They stand in a line in the end and each offers a toast. The United States, The President, each branch of the service including the Coast Guard and the Submarine force, the men and women that died serving their country and those currently fighting are always honored. It's one of my favorite parts of the ceremony. And there are always the pictures for the parents.
How patriotic prom is this?

Love the photo story, especially the last one.

You two certainly look a little different in that image than you do at Laniakea.

I live in Key West FL and recently met the CO and COB of the USS Key West SSN 722. As active members of the Navy League KW Coucil we would like to attend the Submarine Ball in 2011. Do you know the date? Thanks Stan Rzad
