Oh Mr. Sancho Lee...You are Addictive
I mentioned in my last post that we went to a benefit concert for a young woman that was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her name is Lauae Beamer. She is the daughter in law of Kapono Beamer, a well known Hawaiian musician. This benefit was the opportunity for me to experience Hawaiian music from those that created the classic tunes, as well as introduce me to the more modern expressions. One of the benefits about living in a unique culture is that if you allow yourself, you will open yourself up to some beautiful and amazing new things. I took some photos and unfortunately, none of them are good enough to post. Instead, I am going to put websites of the performers here. Please go and check some out. I hope their music transports you like it did to me.

As for Mr. Sancho Lee, the Beamer brother's whimsical look at racism and bias on an island, well, I can't get it out of my head. I sing it in the shower, while cooking breakfast, and well, even drunk walking in the courtyard at the Hale Koa (and taught it to Robin and Trev, and now they can't stop singing it!). I asked my handsome and talented friend, Keoke, to sing it one night at our home after dinner. Because he is a good person, he humored me.

I like to sing it and insert my friend's names and make up stories about them. But that's just me.
